I am preparing for the 2016 Abbot Kinney Festival 2016 in Venice, CA at the end of September. This festival just gets better and better and although there are people who hate the growth happening in Venice; I see it as a truly positive sign. We all hate change but we all know it’s inevitable. If we were to “Keep Venice Venice” it certainly wouldn’t look how it does today. Look at the very old pictures of the Abbot Kinney dream. Thankfully there are people reviving old buildings, caring for their gardens, putting money back into their beloved community. As a lifelong (and proud) struggling artist and native Angeleno; I am grateful to participate. If you live nearby come say hi and check out all the great artisans, food, music and many, many walks of Venice life. Coordinates to follow.
Keep You, You.
Venice now has no style, no authenticity, no gravitas. The area has morphed into a commercial joke of itself.
Well like I said change is hard. And while it has grown commercially it is nothing like the monster that is Santa Monica. Personally I’m trying to stay positive. I’ve seen many, many different versions of Los Angeles; as has my mother before me. There is no solution in clinging and the hatred needs to stop. The Westside is no longer the sleepy section; it has awakened. Like it or not…and maybe you need to look a little harder for that authenticity – but it’s still there.
